How to Clean an Above-Ground Pool Once it Has Been Drained
Here are some step-by-step instructions you can use to properly clean your drained above-ground pool.
Gather the Necessary Supplies
The first step is to gather the required supplies. You’ll need a bucket, sponge, pool brush, hot water, and bleach.
Drain the Pool
The next thing you’ll want to do is drain the pool. While how to do this step will depend on the model of your pool, most can be drained with the help of a pool pump. You can attach an intake hose and then put one end of it into the center of the pool. Afterward, place the other end of the hose into a container or in a space you’d like the water to be drained into. Once you do this, turn the pump on and monitor the water. When you find that the pump is unable to remove any more water, turn the device off.
Remove the Liner
After draining your pool you can then remove the liner. The liner covers the inner structure of the pool to help prevent water from seeping out. To remove the liner, take off all outer pool plumbing pieces and accessories to prevent them from ripping it. Create a Cleaning Solution and Brush Off the Pool Liner With It
To make a cleaning solution for the pool liner, you’ll want to mix about ½ cup of bleach with 2-3 cups of hot water in a bucket. After this has been completely mixed together, dip a sponge into the bucket and start to rub it on the pool liner. You’ll want to spend a few minutes reaching all areas on the pool liner to remove dirt and debris. After rubbing the pool liner down with a sponge, you can then grab the pool brush, put it into the bleach/hot water mixture, and sweep it over the pool liner. Keep in mind you want to carefully move the pool brush over the liner as too much pressure could cause its bristles to pierce the material.
Wash the Pool Liner Off with Water and Reattach it to the Pool
The last step is to wash the pool liner off with water. You can do this by filling buckets up and dumping them over the liner or hooking a hose up and spraying the water on it. To ensure the bleach has been completely removed, you’ll want to do this step for about 5-10 minutes. Once this time has passed, lift the liner up and reattach it to the above-ground pool.
